A Season's Griot is public radio's only nationally syndicated Kwanzaa program. Hosted for the last 19 years by acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson, this annual one-hour special captures tales and traditions of African-American and African peoples. This year’s program features our youth as the special guest griots, reading their own original and traditional stories.  Familiar and favorite elements of Griot will also be in place with plenty of music, and an original composition by the show’s poet laureate, Beverly Fields Burnette in this, the 2013 edition of A Season's Griot.

All questions and comments may be sent to Producer Mary Bradley, [email protected]. This project receives support from The North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, with funding from the The National Endowment for the Arts. A Season's Griot is produced by WHQR's Mary Bradley and distributed nationwide by Public Radio International.

We loved listening to this Kwanzaa special on WAMU in Washington DC yesterday. Mr. Madafo Lloyd Wilson's voice(s) astonish and engage. Wow, I felt like I was sitting at Grampa's knee. I grew up listening to these stories and knew they instructed about humans everywhere. Brilliant storytelling!
We wanted to replay the program for our grandchildren. We hoped there is a recording for us to link to but haven't found one. Would there be a way to listen again?
Thank you, especially for enriching our lives.

I loved your story of a black officer on his way to war in Europe who took one of the only two seats available behind the driver and the pretty white girl determined to protect him from the the inherent Southern rascism on his journey but I can't seem to hunt it down! Damn, that was one heck of a story and so well narrated and so well told I'm surprised it's considered a National Treasure by now and yet I can't find it anywhere. Could you help out and email me a podcast of it or the text. It made me cry. Thank you!
