Subject: Looking for Storytellers to Interview

From: Linda Humes [email protected]

Hi NABS Family,   I am currently working on my Ed.D in Executive Leadership. My dissertation topic is about African American storytelling as a vehicle for strengthening urban schools. I need tellers who have done ongoing in depth work with urban schools. Below, I have bullet the criteria for this study. If you or any of your colleagues are interested, please contact me.

My deadline for this inquiry is 7/24. This study is important for all of us who clearly know the value of the work that we do. At this point in our collective journeys as storytellers and keepers of the truth and culture, we must have more qualitative and quantitative data to expand the capacity of what we do and who we can serve.   There is increasingly more literature speaking to the importance of "narrative;, "storytelling" and applied storytelling" as integral components to corporate success, education and community building. Unfortunately the contribution of traditional African American storytelling and tellers are left out of these conversations. Our tradition informed all of these storytelling movements.

This work like the work of many of my colleagues brings us into the conversation!!  "In the Tradition..."We tell our story!   Criteria:   * 10-15 years experience as a professional teller * Worked in the same urban school for at least 3 years * Conducts performances, workshops with students, professional development workshops with teachers and parent workshops *Population - predominately African American/Latino, * K-12, It could be K-5, middle school or high school

* If selected, the interview process would not be extremely time consuming Also interested in speaking to any urban school administrators that use and integrate African American storytelling, culture, ritual throughout the school.

Thank you
